I treated you badly.
I never hurt you, it wasn't like that, but the way I spoke to you sometimes...your reward for loving me wasn't what you deserved.
I'll never have love like that again. It was unconditional, enthusiastic, and energetic.
A brown blur zooming towards me and my hands too big and clumsy for your delicate little frame. You'd listen to my grumbles, my endless complaints and grumpiness, and still want to be around me.
You were a gift to me I didn't deserve. From the moment we met on the train I was doomed, dooming myself the way I always do, to drive you away.
I don't know why I crave attention and adoration and then, the second I get it, I push it away. I don't know why I made you think everything you did was wrong. You never let me down and I can't ever remember saying thank you.
Thank you.
It's too late but it should be said, at least once.
Thank you for being such a good friend. Thank you for staying by my side. Thank you for loving me.
You were all heart and all mine. I never had anything all to myself until you. You would have followed me anywhere.
I left you.
I went away and made sure you couldn't come after me, couldn't track me down.
When I saw you again you battered me about the head but soon you circled me with love again. You made sure I was never alone. You reached out around the globe for me, making it feel smaller and home not so far away.
When I found you laying so still I knew. I knew what I'd lost and then realised what I'd had.
I hope you know I loved you too, my fuzzy little brown nuisance.
Now there's only Hermione left to bug me.
